Author of Romance and Suspense

In the beginning…

As this is my first official post, I felt it would be fitting to start at the beginning. The beginning of my writing career, that is.

The year was 1995. I was an undergraduate at the University of North Texas, coping with changes in life and the amazing realization that the world is very large and my life was very much ahead of me.

I began writing poetry, not because I’m any good at it but because I loved reading poetry and I firmly believe you have to be a faithful reader before you can be a faithful writer. I began writing poetry about the feelings I had deep inside. In the end, I delved into the deepest depths of emotions I never knew I had. This led to my first attempt at a novel.

It was a pathetic attempt that makes me laugh (and cry). The Packard Bell computer is long gone and thankfully, there is only one printed copy in existence today. Every once in a while I pull it out and give it a read. I learned a lot from that piece. First and for most, I learned I had a lot to improve in style, skill and grammar.

But something else happened. My characters were lovable, memorable, believable. My friends read every page I wrote almost as quickly as I wrote them. They loved it. I had readers, and I loved that.

And so, here I am today, still writing and still improving.
