My Muse fell asleep on the job…

I decided to take a different slant on a book I thought I’d completed. I wasn’t 100% happy and set it aside for a couple weeks. Then, a light bulb went off and I started tweaking. I wrote an entirely new chapter, a fabulous first chapter. I LOVED this new chapter. I saved it and went about my day.

Then, like any good antagonist, my laptop spontaneously rebooted.

I lost my new fabulous chapter. I was pissed at myself for leaving the program open. I was pissed at the program and my laptop. I cursed my Muse who had obviously abandoned her guard over my work while I went about my day job and the dishes and life!

So, I stopped writing for a week. Even though my brain said, write now while you can still remember all of those stupendous one liners and character introductions, but my heart wasn’t in it. I needed to decompress.

I started to rewrite it tonight and little by little the magic is coming back. I keep telling myself rewrites are always better but let’s be honest, I’m still really pissed.

Lesson learned – triple save and don’t leave my work open for the gremlins to steal!
